A woman has slammed her cousin for giving her a "unique" name that'll only "cause him problems later in life". She explained how her cousin wants her to "stand out" from the crowd and decided to give him a memorable name to achieve this.
However, she claims it has the opposite effect and could negatively impact him through his school years and into his career. She said on : "How do I convince my cousin to not name her son this?
"Basically earlier today me and my cousin were hanging out and she told me the name she's gonna name her baby when he's born, she told me his name is gonna be Cooper, and I was like 'oh cool'."
However, she then said it wouldn't be spelt in the traditional way - instead opting for Cuuper. This caused some confusion.
She added: "Then she said 'but I'm not gonna spell it the normal way'. So I'm like, 'what?' and she's like 'I'm gonna spell it C-u-u-p-e-r, because I want him to be unique.' Like what? How do I tell her that's stupid without being too mean?"
Commenting on her post, one user said: "Everyone will assume it's Cupper, and then wonder why the hell it's Cupper."
Another user added: "A cooper is a barrel maker. A Cuuper is a permanent reminder your parents were stupid as f***."

A third user said: "Just be like ‘so you’re naming him Cuper?’ And then call him Cuper until she gets the idea."
One more user added: "All I could think when I saw the spelling is all the ways kids will make fun of him. They will probably pronounce it Cupper and say he cups balls or whatever kids in 10 years can come up with. I wish I had advice on how to change her mind."
While another user shared their confusion over why so many people want to give their children "unique names", saying only makes "ordinary" names less common.
They said: "I don't understand why people think changing the spelling to something ridiculous makes it unqiue.
"Many people Cuuper meets will only ever hear his name and just assume its spelled Cooper like normal, thus making it.... not unique."
Another user said: "A unique name doesn’t make you unique. If she wants a unique name, she should just pick a unique name instead of butchering a recognised name.
"Instead of feeling special or cool, he will likely just feel annoyed by everyone misspelling and mispronouncing his name, never finding it on anything, having to explain that it’s Cooper but spelled , etc."
